Another Great Raft Race

It looks like more than £10,000 has been raised by the intrepid crews who took part in this year’s Raft race. The weather was great and an enthusiastic crowd was at Millmead to see the many rafts gather in preparation for their trip down the River Wey.

The start at 3.00pm saw more than 25 rafts head down river and before long the fastest were already arriving at the Waterside Centre. Others took a little longer!!

A huge crowd walked the course alongside the rafts and the Guildford Mayor Cllr Mrs Jennifer Jordon accompanied Chris Thomas, Guildford Lions’ Club President on the National Trust boat as it steered its passage through the fleet.

“Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves,” said Chris, “and a great deal of effort was put into the design of some of the rafts. The money raised will go to many good causes so I would urge the teams to collect their sponsorship as soon as possible.” “I would like to thank our sponsors Enterprise Rent a Car and all the teams for their participation.”

John Fellows, event Chairman added “This was another successful year for the Raft Race and I would thank everyone who took part and also those who supported the race. Details of next year’s race will be posted here in the New Year.”
